Steel Commuter and Gravel Bike Preamble is a hard-boiled steel commuter built for comfort, durability, and buffoonery on pavement and gravel. Nothing More is Needed. Nothing Less Will Do. The challenge was thus: Build a serious steel bike and give it only the attributes that matter most. Make it quick and comfortable on pavement, as well as confident and compliant on degraded surfaces. What the Enginerds put forth is Preamble, a pavement and gravel utility worker that proves you don't need to cut corners or clip coupons to make a more affordable steel bike. You just need to keep shit simple. Preamble can run racks and fenders and carry a couple water bottles. Surly was raised on stealing basic cable, after all. Smooth and efficient on asphalt, Preamble's double-butted main triangle provides a resplendent ride feel and withstands abuse from life's inevitable potholes. Make it your own with flat bars, drop bars, a basket, or bags. On the road to steel euphoria, Preamble is the gateway drug. Let facts be submitted to a candid world: - Offered in flat-bar and drop-bar configurations - Easy T-Shirt sizing to fit nearly every rider (XS, S, M, L, XL) - Sloping top tubes on XS and Small frames for improved standover and comfort - To offer the best rider experience for every frame size, XS and S frames get 650b wheelsets while M–XL get 700c - Custom-cast single-position vertical dropout

The masses have been asking for an aluminum Libre, and we’re thrilled to present this gorgeous go-getter. Featuring our Carbon Verso fork with its multitude of carrying capabilities, the Libre is the more budget-friendly version of our badass gravel adventure bike. Featuring a SRAM Apex drivetrain, TRP Spyre brakes, formula hubs, and mounts for a multitude of frame bags and bottles, the Libre is ready to comfortably take you on some big backcountry adventures. Kona 6061 Aluminum Kona 7005 and 6061 Aluminum alloys are used extensively throughout our fleet of mountain and asphalt bicycles. A tough, durable, light alloy, both Kona 7005 and 6061 deliver fantastic, reliable performance that lasts for thousands of rides. Much of our 7005/6061 tubing is butted and/or formed, meaning the tubing’s wall thickness can be increased or decreased as well as shaped, so we can fine-tune a particular frame’s strength and ride characteristics depending on its intended application. Internal Headset Bearing cups are actually pressed into the frame and are easily removable. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible. Tapered Head Tube More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset itself and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going—into the lower headset cup—maximizing bearing durability where it’s needed. Tubeless Compatible Rims Tubeless rims allow for tires with more puncture resistance; the ability to run lower tire pressure, which provides better tire grip on the trail; lower rolling resistance; and weight savings over traditional tube and tire systems. 12x142mm Axle 12x142mm, 12x148, and 12x157 rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: the 12mm diameter of the rear axle provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 142/148/157mm outer diameter of the hub allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted.

The Sutra LTD is one of those bikes that just changes everything. You thought you were a mountain biker, but you find yourself sneaking off on adventures on the LTD. You thought you were a roadie, but find yourself riding singletrack when no one else is looking. That’s the best part about the Sutra LTD—it broke the mold of what a bike has to be. The Cromoly steel frame holds an 11-speed SRAM Rival 1 drivetrain and brakes with 160mm rotors, providing ample power to climb and stop the bike. Velo Shock-proof bar tape keeps the vibrations down and WTB Venture TCS 700x50c tires make quick work of tricky terrain. Kona Cromoly Very few materials offer as much shock absorption, durability, and supple-ride characteristics as steel. We’ve never strayed from cycling’s original material and have worked tirelessly to adapt, refine and innovate Kona Cromoly framesets as rider demands continue to evolve. The Sutra ULTD is the continuation of a dream to make a drop bar bike as badass as possible. The butted Cromoly frame and Project Two Cromoly disc fork hold WTB KOM Light Team i27 TCS 2.0 rims on Maxxis Recon Race EXO TR 29x2.25" tires. That’s right. 2.25" of earth-gripping rubber. When the descents get hairy, you can get low with a Trans-X +RAD dropper post. SRAM Rival 1 flat mount disc brakes and drivetrain keep things moving (and stopping) nicely. This bike is as beautiful as it is beastly, with a gorgeous Prism paint job. Turn heads while you turn over the miles on the brand-new Sutra Unlimited. Kona Cromoly Very few materials offer as much shock absorption, durability, and supple-ride characteristics as steel. The Libre CR is getting a big upgrade with Shimano's GRX 600 2x11 drivetrain. Shifting is smoother than ever and the wide gear range makes any mountain a mole hill. The Kona Race Light Carbon frame features a ton of mounts for carrying just about anything. Paired with Kona's Verso carbon fork and its 3pack cage mounts, this bike is a seriously lightweight gear-hauler. Whether bikepacking, ripping the local gravel roads, or out on an epic summertime century, the Libre is fast, efficient, and comfortable across any terrain. Kona Carbon Designed to be lightweight and built to demanding standards. Carbon fiber has long been praised for its weight and strength, but rather than chase grams, we place our efforts on the performance that is possible when the right high-modulus fibers are in the right places. Our designers work very closely with our manufacturer to ensure there is no compromise to the desired ride characteristics, durability and – finally – weight stipulations that we expect from our bikes. Integrated Headset Integrated headsets are simple, light, and effective headset systems whereby the bearing race cups are actually part of the head tube, and they are either machined away and left with the head tube, bonded (carbon), or welded in with steel or alloy. Like an internal headset, an integrated headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible. Tapered Head Tube More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset itself and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The extra air volume in this new generation of urban and mixed-surface tires means they can be run comfortably at lower pressures while still rolling quickly on a variety of surfaces. It's the best of both worlds.
